The first and only storage facility and managed archive for professional photographers materials. Negative Space: A Managed Archive is working in conjunction with Hollywood Vaults to provide a state of the art storage facility for professional photographers. The physical structure of Hollywood Vaults is a virtual fortress of concrete and steel. The Swiss-built vaults protect precious originals from fire, theft and piracy in a clean-room environment free of airborne pollutants and damaging variations in temperature and humidity. Unlike labs or other storage facilities the climate is controlled providing ideal conditions for the preservation of media elements. 45° F and 25% relative humidity are maintained at all times. The air in the vaults is continually scrubbed for dirt, dust, particulate and chemicals using HEPA carbon and molecular sieve filters, maintaining clean-room conditions. A central security station monitors the facility 24 hours a day for heat, smoke, fire, flood, temperature, humidity, and intrusion. A Halon fire suppression system is installed throughout, and security patrols the building 24 hours a day. ![]() Negative Space: A Managed Archive offers 24-hour material retrieval, barcode computer database tracking, organization and precise archiving of material, as well as safety and control of your valuable art. Services also include:
![]() HOW IT WORKSNegative Space conducts an archive consultation with photographer. Archive is measured, and state of organization is assessed. Photographer is given a quote for storage of material based solely on size of archive per cubic foot. Photographer is given a separate estimate for an entry fee. An entry fee is determined based on the state of organization or disorganization that the archive is currently in. Extra time may be needed to make the archive organized to best fill space and create ease in retrieving material. Once material is organized, it will be bar-coded, counted, and entered into Negative Space database. These steps may be done at photographers place, at the vault, or at Negative Space offices. Material accepted into vault is considered "as-is" condition. Any unusual effects noticed (mold, bends, tears) will be noted. Negative Space will provide photographer with list and count of all things stored in archive. Price for storage will not increase until archive increases in by 1 cubic foot. New material to be archived can be sent directly to Negative Space offices, or may be received directly from photographer's lab. Negative Space will check with photographer periodically to see if there is any new material. Photographer will provide Negative Space with a list of people that are approved to request and receive material/negatives. Whoever requests material to be pulled from archive (client, photographer, syndication) will be charged a $20 pull fee. The requestor must provide delivery/transportation/messenger instructions to Negative Space. Once material leaves Negative Space, Negative Space is no longer responsible for the safety or wellbeing of said material. Requestor is allowed to keep material for one week from date of receipt before material must be returned. It is the responsibility of the requestor to arrange return of materials within the time mutually agreed upon. Negative Space will provide photographer with a "material movement" report at the end of each month. ![]() To find out more or register your interest in these services, please contact us.
